princess party postscript

Thanks to everyone who came and attended Sagey's third birthday!

Unfortunately, the little girl was suffering from a bad cold, and was therefore not her usual sunny self, but she cheered up considerably after the party, when it was down to just the uncles and aunts she feels more comfortable with... and yes, when it came time to open presents!

Despite the fact that she got three toy pianos (two of them exactly the same, at that!), Sage seemed enraptured with her pile of toys and books, and will no doubt be delighted again today, when she comes home from visiting pals to find a last present, mailed all the way from Davao by her Uncle Benjie.

She also got some cute outfits, which probably delighted only her mother; and thanks to Uncle Jason, it looks like we will be watching Barbie videos ad infinitum for the foreseeable future--which the aforementioned mother finds slightly less delightful.

I am a fairy tale and folklore buff, and it's giving me a bit of trouble explaining to Sage why the version of Rapunzel I originally told her did not include a cutesy purple dragon. Of course, if I can exclude the part about the thorns piercing the prince's eyes, I guess Mattel can do whatever they want with the story. Birthdays and bowdlerization... it's all about evolution, I suppose.
